Latest News: 03/03/2008 – Congratulations to Kelly Rossiter and Liv Rigden who have been elected Master and Mistress of the Moots 2008/9

Kelly Rossiter Liv RigdenHey everyone!

We’re Liv and Kelly and we are the Mistresses of the Moots for 2008/9. We want to let you know that mooting is a fantastic skill to put on your CV and is essential not just for those of you considering a career at the Bar but also for anyone considering any path in law and other careers. At first, mooting may seem overwhelming or scary but once you get into it, it’s actually pretty fun and extremely rewarding!

We hope that this website will give you a better idea about mooting, some helpful hints about how to do it and the confidence to take part in the first round. At the beginning of this academic year we will be holding a number of introductory workshops which will give you a better insight into what mooting is about and how you can get involved here at Exeter. We will also be holding a demo moot for you to see mooting in action before you get started.

Following on from this, once you have got to grips with the basics of how to moot, we will be holding the annual Western Circuit Mooting Competition, our internal competition at Exeter which is open to everyone whether you have just started mooting or are very experienced. This competition usually attracts a huge number of law students so don’t be scared to get involved. We will also be holding the Ashfords Mooting Competition against Plymouth which is open specifically to beginner mooters.

If you would like to get involved which we hope you do, please look out for workshops being held in the first few weeks of term or feel free to contact us. You can email us at bls.mooting@gmail.com or drop a note in the mooting pigeon hole opposite the law office in Amory Building. If you see us around, we would be more than happy to chat with you about any questions you have.

We hope to meet you all very soon!

Liv and Kelly x

Organising

As much as we love it, we know that mooting may not be for everyone, but we want to make sure you have every possible opportunity to get involved. We want to provide some opportunities to get involved behind the scenes. With help from other people we will be able to provide even more mooting opportunities for those who want them.

We already have a team of experienced mooters who are helping us with the mooting workshops. This means that we have been able to hold workshops in small groups and structure them in a way that suits each different group.

For everyone else we will be looking for people willing to clerk, help us to find books before a moot or perhaps even to liaise with other universities or help apply for sponsorship.
